I am not a big fan of talking exclusively about myself, but I have set out a task to create a more robust About Me page by actually making it a blog series. This way I figure it will always be fairly current, as well as an archive of all the things that have made me who I am. What I am a big fan of is, sports. At some level I love just about all sports, even the sports I claim to hate. I figured today would be a great day to go “on prompt” with the Desk Community Daily Post and write about what I am doing this day of NFL Super Bowl XLIX and maybe my feelings of sports in general.
To be very on topic, I am a fan of watching sports, and that includes football. I suppose I would qualify as a fan of the game of football, the fact that I don’t plan on watching the Super Bowl probably speaks best to where I stand with the sport. I follow it to some degree, and I know the teams and many of the players, and even take part in a fantasy football league every year for something like the last 6+ years (I even won the first 2 years).
There is some interest in both the NFL and College football world, but my plans for the day are to get my posts for the day written, finish the first version of my Desk plugin, and then maybe head out to Disney for a few hours with the family. This to me, is a much more enjoyable way to spend my day than watching the Super Bowl. That isn’t to say I don’t enjoy attending super bowl parties, but most of my friends that throw parties have moved away or aren’t holing one this year.
Now if this were the world series, it might be a whole other story. As most people who know me can attest, I am a pretty big baseball fan. My team is the Atlanta Braves, and I have been a fan for many years. I miss the days of Mad Dog, Glavine, and Smoltzie where we could count on a playoff run every year, and Chipper Jones patrolled the left side of the infield and terrorized pitchers across the league. I am lucky enough to live near the Disney All Star Sports facility where the Atlanta Braves call home for spring training every year (Although I fear it may end in the next few years). And I try to make at least one pilgrimage up to Atlanta to catch a Braves game at the Ted every year, although I am not always successful.
As you may have noticed in some of my recent posts, I am also a huge automotive racing fan. To be honest, there doesn’t even need to be racing, just a motor and 4 wheels and I am interested. The racing is just the icing on the cake. Between the competition, the danger and excitement of the race, and the engineering used to support the cars on the track, racing fits very nicely in my realm of interest.
You can also find me playing or watching golf, or tennis, and I am even starting to consider getting into soccer now that we have a professional team here in Orlando. All that said, the only thing that would usurp me working on my current startup business or a day out with family would possibly be a baseball game. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t put baseball over family, but if the World Series was running this weekend, I would probably schedule our family outing to Disney for next weekend. And so, that is kinda where I stand on sports. There are others I enjoy watching, but I don’t follow them that closely. I am basically just a family oriented, baseball loving, racing watching, code slinging monkey on a keyboard.
